Basic Cooking Course – Participants will learn how to shop, cook and store healthy foods in their homes. In this four week class, students will attend two classes per week for three hours each session. This class will teach basic skills on how to read a simple recipe (know the difference between blend, chop, dice, bake, broil, etc); learn basic nutrition; operate a microwave, oven, stove top, and grill; and actually go to a grocery store to learn how to buy healthy foods in a low income. Classes are held from 1-3 PM (call for specific dates); students are welcome to arrive by 11:30 AM if they wish to have lunch on us.

The classes will be held at the S.T.A.R. East location on the corner of Alma School and University Drive in Mesa. Participants must be enrolled with the S.T.A.R. Centers to participate. However, members are welcome to sign up for multiple Peer Recovery Programs at the same time. There is no cost to the member. To enroll in this course, please contact Jeni Serrano – Site Manager at STAR East (480) 649-3642.

Upon completion of the course, each participant will receive a report card showing they have successfully completed all aspects of the course or will indicate where further one-on-one supports may be needed to reach the highest potential.
