Peer Support Certification Training

Become a Certified Peer Support Specialist through S.T.A.R.’s AHCCCS-approved hybrid course. Offered twice per month in-person or via Zoom.

About the Training

Our curriculum, developed in collaboration with experienced peer support specialists, is interactive and hands-on — featuring:

  • Group discussions

  • Module presentations

  • Role-playing activities to practice skills

This approach ensures participants gain the skills, confidence, and knowledge to support others in their recovery journey.

Certification Outcomes

Graduates receive a Certificate of Completion that qualifies them to work as:

  • Peer & Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS)

  • Peer Support Specialist

  • Peer Mentor

  • Other entry-level healthcare or behavioral health positions

Our course meets or exceeds the competency standards set by SAMHSA and is approved and recognized by AHCCCS.

Eligibility Requirements

Must meet AHCCCS and program eligibility standards

  • Commitment to attend all 4 days in full

  • Willingness to share and learn from lived experience in a recovery-focused setting

Course Details

Frequency: Twice per month

  1. Duration: 4 consecutive days

  2. Format: In-person (Phoenix) or Zoom

  3. Cost: Free for S.T.A.R. members and AHCCCS Recipients / Self-Pay option available for Non-members

  4. Location: S.T.A.R. Central – 2502 E. Washington St., Phoenix, AZ 85034
